I am afraid of therapy, diagnosis, or clinic

Many people are not only afraid of how they feel, but also of what getting help might mean. This fear deserves to be taken seriously.

A first conversation is not an exam

You do not have to prove that you are ill enough. You also do not have to tell your whole story. A first conversation can simply clarify what kind of help might fit.

A diagnosis is not a judgment about you

A professional assessment is meant to help find suitable support. You may ask questions if a word worries you or you do not understand something.

Clinic does not automatically mean losing control

Sometimes a clinic is mentioned only as one option if outpatient help is not enough or safety matters. If you are afraid of it, say so. That fear can be part of the conversation.

When real help matters more

If you do not feel safe, hardly sleep for days, feel very confused, or are afraid you might harm yourself, real help matters immediately. In acute danger in Germany, call 112.

What you can do now

  1. Name the fear of help.
  2. Start small with a doctor, counseling center, or consultation hour.
  3. Use urgent help in acute danger.
